STEP 1 | SET A GOAL
If you're not sure, booking 1-2 speaking events per month is a great goal.
STEP 2 | FIND YOUR SPEAKING EVENTS
The best speaking gigs will come from:
1 | People you know who host events.
As you go through your Cool Leads Pipeline, ask yourself "does this person lead online or in person events?"
You may know more Event Hosts than you realize.
2 | Introductions to people who host events.
Use the Get Referrals Template to get referrals to an Event Host.
If you ask 10 people who they know who hosts events, many of them might have introductions for you.
3 | Post on Social Media About the Events You Speak at
Every time you post about a Speaking Gig, it's an indirect way of letting all Event Hosts know that you are open for Speaking Gigs and that smart people hire you. Go to Create Engaging Social Media Posts Template | Event Posts for ideas on how to post about your speaking events.
4 | Meet Event Hosts at their events
Go to events with 2 intentions:
Intention 1| To have Heartselling Conversations
In Thrive, these would be Referral or JV conversations... but at many other events, these could be potential client conversations.
Intention 2 | To meet the host of the event
Open a door to speaking at their upcoming events.
At their event, you might only have 1 min to have this short convo:
"Hey ____ (Event Host)! Great job putting this event together… I know it’s a LOT of work!
I’d love to talk with you about promoting your event to my community. Can I send you a message about that tomorrow? What’s your phone number so I can send you a text?
Great! Can we take a quick selfie so you remember who I am?
Awesome! Really great meeting you! I’ll send you a text tomorrow!"

The fastest way to get a LOT of clients is to speak in front of a group that someone else filled.
We (Jesse and Sharla) have been invited to speak to many dozens of groups (both online and in person) that have led to millions of dollars in client income.
Nearly every speaking gig we were invited to came from conversations where we basically used this template.
We have never been asked for a speaker highlight reel. And, we've only used our Speaker One Sheet three times.
One of those times helped Sharla land a speaking spot at E-women, in front of many hundreds of women. So, it was definitely helpful.
If you're in Platinum, you can find our Speaker One Sheet Template in Six Figure Speaker Templates.
But, for smaller speaking gigs, they are almost always not necessary if you use the Book Speaking Events System.
Step 1 | Get Referred to the Host of an Event using the Get Referrals Template (to an Event Host) ↗️
Step 2 | Use the template above to book a Speaking Gig with the Event Host ⬆️
1. Through referrals to Event Hosts.
2. MANY groups meet in your city every day (and even more on Zoom all over the world). (So, Event Hosts are everywhere.)
You can find events on Google, Meet up, Facebook, etc.
1. It is a great conversation starter with the Event Host.
2. It helps the Event Host and makes it more likely that they will book you as a speaker.
3. You get to share with your social media following and email list that you are a successful speaker (which could get you more invites).
🌱 But what if you don't have a big community yet?

If you have an email list that is under 100, those select people are going to be the ones that know you really well and trust you... and are more likely to sign up for their event.
If you have a smaller social following, you can promote it on all platforms multiple times (in multiple ways).
(It's also good for you because you can highlight that you're speaking at this event.)
If they ask you how big your community is you can say:
My community is still relatively small, but my people trust me and when I share how great it is, I believe they'll want to join your event... I will also be building a much bigger following over the coming years... And if this continues to be a match, I would love to continue to promote your event in the months and years to come.
If you have already taken Six Figure Speaker and you have refined the art of speaking to groups and invitations... You may be in a position to invest in sponsoring events.
This means that you could pay an Event Host $100, $500, $1,000 or more (depending on how many clients you anticipate receiving from this group) to speak on their stage.
They might also agree to promote you to their email list, post about you on social, etc...
⚠️ Caution: This is always a risk, so don't sponsor events with money you can't afford to lose.
But if you have led your workshop many times and you consistently sign people up for the next step with you, this may be a strategic way to get lots of clients.
⚠️ Caution: Many Event Hosts overestimate how many people will be there for your talk. So, to minimize risk, you can a clause to your agreement like these examples:

・I will pay you a sponsorship fee of $ _______ as long as there are over ___ (#) people are present for my talk.
・I will pay you a sponsorship fee of $ _______ if there are between _____ (#) and ____ (#) people present at my talk.
This is a great strategy that can bring you a lot of high-paying clients quickly. It's resulted in many millions of dollars for Thrive and for Thrive Members.
And... Making money speaking to groups is an art, because you can be too sales-y, which can damage your reputation, or you can be to heartsy and waste your time and possibly money (and not get asked to speak there again).
So, if you haven't taken Six Figure Speaker yet, you might consider waiting on this strategy until after you've taken Six Figure Speaker at least once.
6 | SELF-RATING TOOL 🤍
So you can see exactly what it will take to master this template (and track your progress toward mastery).
Be gentle with yourself. Mastery takes time. And love. And tenacity. If your score is low, get support. You will be better able to reach your people when you master this.
1–3 ⎯ “I’m on My Way”. Get support from Your Thrive Business Coach to raise your score.
4–6 ⎯ Good. Better than 90% of entrepreneurs. Time to use this template with potential clients!
5–7 ⎯ Great! You should see great results when you use this template!
8–10 ⎯ AMAZING! You have attained mastery that will make you magnetic to clients.
